Tactic 5: Rewriting History
They erase their own pasts and eliminate all memory of you from their lives so that they do not have to be consumed by the oppressive shame of their own defeat.
This final blow to the defeated narcissist is that all mental files on their hard drive are erased. To combat the overwhelming pain of their shame, they must undergo a psychological lobotomy on themselves. They rewire their whole life.
They erase the years spent together, the sacrifices made, and the crimes committed. Is this even possible? Yes. In the revised version of reality, you were just a bit player, a loony footnote, or perhaps just someone they knew in passing.
They will speak to others—and ultimately to themselves—as if there was never a depth to this relationship. They will delete your pictures. They will abandon your presents and ritually destroy all physical evidence of your existence.
“They do not remember the defeat; then the defeat did not happen. They do not remember the love; then they did not lose anything valuable.”
They hate you because they know you are the carrier of truth. You know about the promises, abuse, and when they fell apart. They hate your memory because it is a threat to their survival. They choose to live in a fake reality of their own heroism because they went through hell, hell they created.
By the way, by erasing you from their story, they think they will finally be able to shake the crippling shame that you impose on them. They would rather live in lies than live on in the presence of a presence that remembers them precisely as they are.
Conclusion
And so, a narcissist who is vanquished does not become a better human being. We understand that. Instead, they become desperate versions of the worst conceivable variants of the narcissist they already were. These are wounded predators whose Soul Theft, Holy Masks, Self-Sabotage Techniques, Void Stares, and Amnesia are only desperate efforts to stem the bleeding of ego.
“If you’re observing this, know you have already won. You have reached game over. The fact that you’re unacceptable to the narcissist before you is an honor to your strength. This simply means you’re such a bright light those shadows have nowhere else to hide.”
Thus, neither be attracted to the ‘fire’ of self-destruction or the ‘holy’ performance. Do not beg for a glimpse from the empty gaze. Allow them to rewrite their history. You are too busy constructing a future wherein they will not be a part of.
Defeat is not something you have to bear. It is simply a result of a life of empty boasts and lies.
