When you appear to be strong to a narcissist, this is what they do to resist you. Narcissists are sadists and enjoy seeing you suffer and get hurt. They have a pathological urge to deprive you of your happiness. To the narcissist, every move or word that you take is responded to with criticism. When the narcissist witnesses their victim prosper and get accepted by other people, that is the worst thing that has ever happened to them.
In the public eye, the narcissist never plays the “bad guy” and pretends as though they care about you. But they’re always plotting how to destroy you behind your back. To narcissists, your existence in their lives will always be important if you keep them engaged in giving them a sense of purpose and fulfilling their need for validation. Whether they view you as an inconsequential or dangerous target, they will try to control you. It is all about the control of the narcissists, not yours.
