Narcissists enjoy boasting on social media since it makes them feel strong and in control. Narcissists are insecure people, and boasting about their accomplishments or possessions can feel as if they are getting validation of their value to the world. It is narcissists’ way of feeling superior to others, something they always crave. Narcissists are entitled to be the boss and require everyone else to recognize it.
It is not only that they want everyone to consider them the best, the smartest, or the prettiest in the group, but there is more to it. So when they upload a selfie to Instagram or boast about the new vehicle on Facebook, it’s not so much about highlighting their good side; sometimes it’s about reminding everyone else who’s boss.
Number 5. It Enables Narcissists to Build a Different World
Narcissists enjoy boasting on social media since it enables them to build a different world in which they are the center stage and feel important. Narcissists will often exaggerate what they’ve done or how happy they are. They construct this other world through what they post and the way they present themselves on social media.
Narcissists appear to be confident on social media because they portray themselves as a completely different person from what they are. This could be even worse if other individuals comment on such posts positively, validating their fantasy and prompting them to do the same.
