Narcissists are hugely insecure individuals who cannot get their self-esteem from the actual world. They must seek validation and admiration in the wrong places. Social media is one such platform where narcissists can receive an abundance of admiration from individuals who do not know them, hence providing them with a platform for their verification needs.
Narcissists are poor at building relationships in the external world and cannot form intimacies with people. Social media provides them with a sense of acceptance since it’s a virtual magnification of their external connections and experiences.
Social media provides them with an outlet for this need without really having to interact with people and without fear of rejection.
Number 7. It Provides Narcissists with Positive Feedback from Other People
Narcissists enjoy boasting on social media because it earns them validation from other people. Narcissists are insecure about their self-worth and need constant assurance that they are performing well or appearing good. Obtaining such assurance from other people online reassures them and makes them feel secure.
They always crave justification for their presence. They need others to tell them just how wonderful they are in order that they can be convinced of the truth, no questions asked. Compliments to narcissists enable them to reaffirm that they are superior and assist them in maintaining their self-image.
